Biography

Jan Gleason established the firm of Gleason Associates in Seattle in 1982, with a focus on work for non-profits, child care centers, and affordable housing providers.  In 1998 her firm merged with Seattle’s Environmental Works, which since its inception in 1970 has made quality design available to non-profit facilities.

Her decades of socially responsible practice culminated in her role as Environmental Works’ Executive Director, where her practice experience, professional reputation, and design acumen advanced the importance of Environmental Works as one of the nation’s best respected community design centers, and helped bring value and awareness to architecture’s community service mission.  During her tenure Jan Gleason oversaw the design of more than 50 child care centers, becoming a national expert on creating spaces for young children.

Jan Gleason died January 6, 2010 following an illness of several months.
