Biography

Early life and Education

Rebecca Binder received her Bachelor of Arts in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania and continued her studies at the University of Exeter, England.  She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a Masters of Architecture degree in 1975. In 1979 Rebecca became a licensed Architect in California and established her practice. She was a professor of Design and Theory at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC) for ten years (1978-1988) and was made a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 1991.

Career in Architecture

Rebecca Binder founded the firm R.L. Binder, AIA Architecture and Planning in 1979. Her work explores the use of simple building materials in fresh ways. She has taken on many positions in her career, including guest lecturer at universities, design juror for awards programs, panelist at architecture forums, and design critic at universities.
