Biography

Early life and education

Joan Blumenfeld, FAIA, FIIDA, is a global interior design director and a Principal Architect at Perkins + Will. She holds a Master of Architecture with Distinction from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophical Psychology from the University of Chicago.

Career in Architecture

Prior to joining Perkins + Will, Blumenfeld was a Principal at Swanke Hayden Connell Architects from 1994 to 2005. She served as the president of the AIA New York Chapter in 2007, with her theme of “Architecture Inside/Out” intending to “create a dialog around the importance of high performance interior design, sustainability, and quality of life issues.” [1]

Blumenfeld is currently a board member for the AIA NY Chapter and of the chapter Scholarship and Nominating Committees. She is the president and chair of the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation Board of Trustees. Blumenfeld is also a member for the NYC Building Congress and has served on the board for IDDA, Pro Mujer and WX, Women Executives in Real Estate. She has been honored with project awards from the AIA, Society of Registered Architects, IFMA, IIDA, Interior Design Magazine and Contract Magazine.
