Biography

Claudia W. Gauen was born in Oakland, California in 1920. She attended the University of California at Berkeley and graduated in 1943 as the only woman in her class. She married George Mueller Gauen, a Lt. Cmdr in the US Navy in Berkeley, CA in 1947.  They had three children, Joseph Gauen, Nancy Gillette and Daniel Gauen.  As of February 2009, Claudia and her children and grandchildren all lived in Hawaii.  George Gauen died March 23, 1993.

Claudia practiced architecture in the Bay Area after graduating from UC Berkeley and before moving to Hawaii with her husband in 1947.  She then worked with renowned Hawaii architect Vladimir Ossipoff for most of her professional life.

Claudia was an active member of the Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle throughout her professional career and was instrumental in many of their landscaping projects.  In 2007, the Outdoor Circle presented her with an award for her outstanding service to the organization.

Claudia passed away on February 11, 2013 aged 92.
